Pasikudah
Trincomalee is one of the popular beaches in the East Coast of Sri Lanka.
Places to Visit:
Pasikudah Beach
Pasikudah Beach, on Sri Lanka's eastern coast, is famed for its pristine beauty and calm, inviting waters. Its wide expanse of soft sand and shallow turquoise bay are a haven for relaxation. One of the longest stretches of shallow coastline in the world, Pasikudah is perfect for families, with children happily splashing in the gentle waves and building sandcastles. Enjoy water sports like snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking, exploring the vibrant marine life just off the shore. Local boat operators offer glass-bottom boat rides for those who prefer a drier approach to spotting the colorful corals and fish. Take a leisurely stroll at sunset, marveling as the sky erupts in fiery oranges and pinks reflected on the tranquil bay. Pasikudah is lined with a variety of accommodations, from beach cabanas to luxury resorts, offering amenities for all preferences. For a taste of local life, venture to small-scale food stalls lining the beach, offering snacks and refreshments. Embrace the laid-back atmosphere and soak up the warmth of the Sri Lankan sun; Pasikudah is the ultimate destination for a relaxing beachside escape.

- Notes:
Batticaloa Dutch Fort
Sri Lanka's colonial past is reflected in the Batticaloa Dutch Fort, a mix-and-match of architectural influences located near Pasikuda. Originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1628, the fort served as an administrative center on a small island within the Batticaloa Lagoon. Ten years later, it was captured by the Dutch, and subsequently by the British in 1745. Today, the fort, although less formidable than its past, still houses government departments within its four bastion walls. Its location holds religious significance with a 1st century B.C. Ruhuna era stupa on the premises. Despite damage from the 2004 tsunami and years of sea erosion, the Batticaloa Dutch Fort stands surrounded by the lagoon as a fascinating piece of history. With open coastal views and remarkable monuments, it's a must-see for any history enthusiast.
