Bentota
Bentota is one of the most-famous beaches of Sri Lanka. Situated in the west coast and a 1.5 hour drive from Colombo, this long stretch of sandy beach, swimmable sea, home to a collection of fantastic hotels is a must-visit for many beach lovers coming to Sri Lanka.
Places to Visit:
Madu River Boat ride
One of the most famous activities for anyone visiting the area is the Madu River Boat ride, or, as some call it, the Boat safari. As the boat glides through the mangroves and the many inhabited islands, you will also enjoy the sudden spotting of birds, and some amazing scenaries. the Fish Spa therapy, where you get to soak your legs into a net full of fish and get the feet cleaned is very famous during this Madu River Boat ride. Also, the visit to the Cinnamon Island, where a local family will grow small amounts of Cinnamon, Dry and Peel them, make Cinnamon-based products is also included during this visit. Some could visit the Temple in one of the ends but this is optional.

- When to visit: Best during the morning times between 07.00 AM to 09.30 AM or evening from 03.30 PM to 06.00 PM.
- Notes: Carry a bottle of water or some biscuits as snacks during this 1-1.5 hour boat journey.
Turtle Conservation/Hatchery
The Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery in Sri Lanka plays a pivotal role in the conservation of sea turtles, focusing on the protection, rehabilitation, and research of these magnificent creatures. Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery is home to five key species of sea turtles, each contributing uniquely to marine ecosystems. These include the Green Turtle, known for maintaining healthy seagrass beds; the Loggerhead Turtle, which helps control the population of crustaceans; the Hawksbill Turtle, aiding in coral reef health; the Olive Ridley Turtle, notable for its mass nesting behavior; and the Leatherback Turtle, which plays a role in controlling jellyfish populations.

- When to visit: Any date and any time during the day. Open from 07.00 AM to 06.30 PM daily.
- Notes: You can also participate in releasing baby-turtles into the ocean depending on the release-time table or schedule.
Lunuganga (Bawa Gardens)
Lunuganga, the brainchild of Geoffrey Bawa, is a masterpiece blending architecture with nature. This garden, once a rubber and cinnamon plantation, was transformed by Bawa into a serene haven reflecting his architectural ingenuity and deep connection with the environment. The estate, spanning over 25 acres, mirrors Bawa's design philosophy of simplicity and functional harmony, creating spaces that foster tranquility and contemplation. It's not just a garden but a carefully curated landscape offering a unique experience with each space designed to connect visitors with their surroundings. When to visit:
Visiting Bentota is a year-round activity. The locations in Bentota are open to the public for the entire year unless closed for private events or due to unforeseeable situations. During the months from November to April, the hotel and resort prices are higher, given the demand for the Winter season. From May to October, the prices are cheaper at the hotels and resorts.
Climate/Weather:
Bentota experiences warm temperatures year-round, with daytime highs ranging from 28.6°C to 31.3°C. The warmest months are March and April, reaching up to 31.3°C. Nights are cooler, with temperatures dropping to 23.4°C to 26.3°C, the coolest being in January. The region experiences high humidity, peaking at 83% between May and August, contributing to a tropical feel. Rainfall varies, with the wettest period from May to September, receiving up to 350mm of precipitation in June, the rainiest month
