Lotus Tower (Nelum Kuluna)
The Lotus Tower in Colombo, standing as the tallest structure in South Asia, symbolizes the country's technological and cultural advancements. It offers panoramic views of Colombo's skyline, the Indian Ocean, and surrounding landscapes. Significantly, it serves as a telecommunication tower and a major tourist attraction, featuring an observation deck, a revolving restaurant, and museums. From its peak, visitors can gaze upon key landmarks like Galle Face Green, Beira Lake, and the Colombo cityscape, making it a pinnacle of both engineering and architectural beauty in Sri Lanka

- When to visit: All throughout the year. Open from 09.00 AM to 09.00 PM daily.

Galle Face Green
Galle Face Green, established in 1859 in Colombo, serves as a historical esplanade that offers a glimpse into Sri Lanka's colonial past and its evolution into a vibrant social hub. It's renowned for hosting significant events, including political rallies and independence celebrations. A haven for street food enthusiasts, it's where delicacies like spicy vadei and the colorful saravita captivate the taste buds of locals and tourists alike, against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean. The sunsets from Galle Face Green are amazing for photography.
- What to wear: Casual clothing.
- When to visit: All throughout the year - recommended during evenings.
- Notes: Carry some cash to purchase some street foods like Vadei and Saravita to try local foods.
Gangaramaya & Seemamalaka
Gangaramaya Temple, founded in the late 19th century, stands as a significant Buddhist temple in Colombo, blending Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese architecture. It is renowned for its collection of Buddhist artifacts, including a tiny Buddha statue, and serves as a center for worship and learning. The temple complex includes the Seema Malaka, an elegant assembly hall for monks. Gangaramaya hosts the spectacular Navam Perahera in February, a vibrant procession featuring elephants, dancers, and drummers, drawing thousands of devotees and spectators annually.
- What to wear: Preferably white clothing that covers up to Elbow length and knee length. Removing slippers is a must but can wear socks.
- When to visit: All throughout the year except for the Nawam Perahara days as it's full of devotees and celebratory events taking place.
- Notes: Don't forget to ask a Monk for the blessed threads and to tie it on your wrist. These are considered to be holy and protection.
When to visit:
- Visiting Colombo is a year-round activity. The Mega-Shopping Malls are fantastic for purchasing souvenirs from Sri Lanka. The locations are open almost every day and most are free as well.
Climate/Weather:
Colombo's weather is marked by a tropical rainforest climate with consistent temperatures year-round, ranging from 23.1°C to 31.8°C. The city experiences high humidity levels and substantial rainfall, particularly from June to August, which is the rainiest period. The best time to visit is January and February, offering the least rainfall and more sunshine hours. Despite the abundant rainfall, Colombo enjoys long daylight hours across all seasons, making it a vibrant city to explore any time of the year
