Pasikudah Beach

Batticaloa Dutch Fort
Sri Lanka's colonial past is reflected in the Batticaloa Dutch Fort, a mix-and-match of architectural influences located near Pasikuda. Originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1628, the fort served as an administrative center on a small island within the Batticaloa Lagoon. Ten years later, it was captured by the Dutch, and subsequently by the British in 1745. Today, the fort, although less formidable than its past, still houses government departments within its four bastion walls. Its location holds religious significance with a 1st century B.C. Ruhuna era stupa on the premises. Despite damage from the 2004 tsunami and years of sea erosion, the Batticaloa Dutch Fort stands surrounded by the lagoon as a fascinating piece of history. With open coastal views and remarkable monuments, it's a must-see for any history enthusiast.

Kallady Bridge
Adjacent to the beach, the Kallady Bridge holds a unique attraction – the Singing Fish of Batticaloa. Between April and September, especially on full moon nights, listen for a faint musical sound emanating from the waters below.

- Notes: The Singing Fish are a rare occurrence and more like a myth related to the bridge only.
When to visit:
Visiting Pasikudah is best suited for the Summer season (from May to October). This is based on the Monsoonal rains and the dry weather. Sunrise from Pasikudah is spectacular.
Climate/Weather:
Pasikudah enjoys warm, tropical weather with two monsoon seasons. It's generally sunny and dry from March to September, with hotter temperatures. The northeast monsoon brings rain from October to January, while a shorter monsoon occurs in May.
